A stain in your stone may lift with the right treatment.
A stain is something that has soaked into the surface — and the right treatment depends on what caused it. Send a clear photo and tell us what you think happened, and we’ll tell you what we expect.
What you’re seeing
A discolored patch that won’t wipe off.
A darker or colored area — sometimes with a defined edge — that stays after cleaning.
It may have appeared after a spill (oil, wine, coffee), a rusting metal object, or a potted plant.
Unlike an etch, which looks dull, a stain usually looks darker or tinted, because material is sitting inside the stone.
What it usually is
Something absorbed into a porous stone.
Natural stone is porous, so oils, drinks, rust and organic matter can be drawn below the surface, especially where a sealer has worn thin.
The cause matters: an oil-based stain, an organic stain and a rust stain each respond to a different treatment. That’s why we ask what happened before recommending anything.
What can be done
A treatment matched to the stain — honestly assessed.
Many stains can be drawn back out with a poultice or targeted treatment selected for the likely cause, then the area re-sealed to help protect it.
We’ll be straight with you: some stains lift completely, some only lighten, and a very old or deep stain may not fully clear. We tell you which outcome we expect before we start — and we restore existing stone, we do not install replacement floors.
