Common Problems

Your marble looks dull or cloudy — and it can almost always be brought back.

Marble that has lost its shine, or stays hazy after you clean it, is one of the most common and most restorable problems there is. Send a few photos and we’ll tell you what we’re seeing.

What you’re seeing

A floor that has gone flat, filmy or hazy.

The mirror finish is gone and the surface looks flat, especially along the paths where people walk most.

It stays cloudy or streaky even right after cleaning — sometimes worse after cleaning than before.

The marble feels fine but simply doesn’t reflect light the way it used to.

What it usually is

Wear or residue — rarely permanent damage.

Fine grit tracked in from outside acts like sandpaper underfoot, slowly flattening the polish.

A film left by the wrong cleaner — general-purpose or acidic products — can build up and haze the surface.

On older floors the original polish has simply worn away. None of this means the marble is ruined.

What can be done

Cleaning, honing and polishing — matched to your stone.

We start by removing residue and film so we can see the true condition of the marble.

Honing evens out wear; polishing and crystallization bring the reflection back. We recommend only the steps your marble actually needs.

One honest note: if cloudiness is coming from moisture under the marble rather than the surface, polishing won’t fix that — and we’ll tell you plainly if that’s what we suspect. We restore existing stone; we do not install replacement floors.
